Living Potential Care Farm has now welcomed back most of our members. We are lucky to have such an enormous amount of room - two kitchens, several toilets, four indoor classrooms, semi-covered spaces and loads of outdoor farm and woodland which makes most of our activities in the fresh air. The members have had great big smiles (as have we), being able to reconnect with friends and peers and the animals. We continue to be vigilant and will follow all government and medical advice.
As well as lots of exciting projects such as the alpaca walks coming soon, we have been busy making more of the farm fully accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, taking advice from occupational therapists based at St. John's University. We are also looking forward to continuing our new partnership with Over the Rainbow dementia care. As well as enjoying day activities with the fantastic staff at Over the Rainbow their members will be able to access the farm, enjoying the animals and horticulture. We plan to build some new raised beds for members who find it difficult to leave the courtyard area.
We will be able to accept new referrals in the coming weeks so please do get in touch if you, or someone you know would benefit from a nature-based supportive environment.
Have a look at for the story of how Living Potential Care Farming helped one young man find direction and purpose in his life. There is also an article in The Yorkshire Post. It covers the website he has made to sell Living Potential merchandise, detailing how it has given him work to do during the coronavirus quarantine and have a paid income which, he has argued in the council chambers, is the right of people with or without disabilities. We are very proud of Joseph and this new venture, showing the drive and ambition of the people we value.
If you would like to support Living Potential, please go to the support page and donate via justgiving. All the projects and adjustments to allow us to keep running through Covid-19 are expensive so any help is very much appreciated.
